PruneFile helps you cut through digital overgrowth — removing duplicates, dead files, and leftover cruft. This page explains what we see, what we don't, and how we keep it that way.
PruneFile is a file cleanup and storage optimization tool built around one principle: your files are yours. We don't run accounts, we don't build profiles, and we don't monetize your data. The app works primarily on your device — scanning, identifying, and removing junk where it lives.
This policy describes the limited information we handle and why. It aligns with the Google Play Developer Policy and applicable privacy laws including GDPR and CCPA.
You don't need an account. If you reach out to support, you may share an email and details about your issue — that's the only personally identifying information we ever receive, and it's used solely to reply.
Automatically, the app may collect:
The contents of your photos, documents, downloads, or any personal file. Our scanner reads only metadata — name, size, type, modification date — to decide what's junk. The actual data stays on your phone and is deleted locally when you confirm.
PruneFile requests "All files access" because a thorough cleaner must look everywhere — not just media folders. Scoped storage alone can't reach residual folders from uninstalled apps, duplicates in user-created directories, or orphaned files in non-standard locations.
This permission is used only for on-device scanning and deletion. No file content is uploaded. Revoke it anytime via Settings → Apps → PruneFile → Permissions; basic cache cleaning will still work without it.
This usage follows Google Play's All Files Access Permission policy, which permits broad storage for file-management apps whose core function depends on it.
We use industry-standard safeguards. Nothing is foolproof, but here's our baseline:
File operations never leave your phone.
TLS 1.3 for all network communication.
Crash logs 90 days, IPs 30 days, analytics aggregated after 60.
No accounts, no persistent user profiles.
The free version uses a small set of providers for analytics, crash reporting, and ads. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
Google Firebase Analytics · Firebase Crashlytics · Google AdMob · Google Play Services
AdMob may use your Ad ID for ad personalization. Opt out in Settings → Privacy → Ads. We don't sell or share your data for third-party marketing.
Depending on where you live, you may request access to, deletion of, or portability of your personal data; opt out of personalized ads; or file a complaint with your local authority. Since we don't maintain accounts, most data is device-local — uninstalling the app clears it.
Email privacy@prunefile.app to exercise any right. We respond within 30 days.
PruneFile isn't aimed at children under 13 (or the local age of consent). We don't knowingly collect data from kids. If you believe a child has shared information with us, contact us and we'll delete it promptly.
We may update this policy as the app or laws evolve. Material changes will be flagged in-app and by updating the effective date above. Continued use means you accept the revised terms.
